Pireaus is the main port of Athens,
the main port of Greece and one of the busiest
in the Mediterranean. It is also the port
of the ferries living to the famous Greek
Islands. Piraeus is an independent town
but today, Athens and the town of Piraeus
form together a uniform megalopolis.
The town of Piraeus is mainly known by
the visitors for its busy and industrial
port with trade boats and many ferries which
live to the beautiful islands of the Aegean.
But the town also proposes places of beauty
and charm. The coastline of Piraeus is skirt
by many marinas where thousands of pleasant
yachts are moored. The Mikrolimano and Passalimani
harbours are also the place where the visitor
will find the best fish tavernas in Athens.
These two harbours, with their many caiques
(traditional fishing boats) have an atmosphere
which reminds an island of the Aegean. Many hotels are located in this beautiful area of Athens
