:: The Airport

Athens has a new International Airport which is located in the area of Spata, 21 km east of Athens.
3 buses daily operate from/to the major locations in Athens.
The Bus E94 operates between the airport and the Ethniki Amyna, the terminus of the metro's line 3. The bus makes about 30 minutes.
The Bus E95 operates between the airport and the Plateia Syntagmatos, Athens' central square where a metro station is also situated. The line operates 24 hours and the bus makes from 60 to 90 minutes, depending of the traffic.
The Bus E96 operates between the airport and Piraeus, Athens' main port to the islands. The line operates 24 hours and makes 60 to 90 minutes.
The ticket fare is a little more expensive than the normal buses' fare and is valid for 24 hours and can be used on all sort of public transportation in Athens: buses, trolley and metro.

An other possibility is to take a taxi to any destination. Fares for taxis depend on the time and traffic conditions. The fares are doubled between midnight and 6 am and there is an airport and luggage surcharge.

:: Bus and Trolley

Athens Transportations: A complete description of transportations in AthensMost of the cultural interests of the city of Athens are located in the town's centre and the can be reached by foot. As Athens' car traffic is enormous, the use of a trolley or a bus is many times useless.

The network of buses and trolleys operates in Athens and its suburbs. Except from a very few buses that operate 24 hours a day between the city of Athens and its main port Piraeus, the buses usually operates from 6 am until midnight and the trolleys from 5am until midnight. The frequencies of buses depend on the traffic conditions.
Bus and trolley ticket cost 0, 45 Euros and can be found in the many little kiosks.

The Athens' metro was inaugurated in 2000 and has totally changed the Athenians way of life. Built only a few years ago, it is a beautiful and modern network.
There are only 3 lines but they already serve the centre of the city very well. But they are still working to enlarge the network.
The central station is located at Syntagma, Athens' central square.
A ticket costs 0.70 cents.

:: Taxis

The taxis in Athens are yellow and are easily detectable as they can be seen everywhere and at any time. Comparing to other European countries, Athens has a huge number of taxis and they are always occupied. One of the particularities of the Taxis in Athens is that they take passengers even if they are already occupied. Every passenger is charged the fare shown in the meter.

The meter always starts with a minimum charge of 0.75 cents. Fares then depend to the time of the day and traffic conditions. The fare is doubled between midnight and 6 am. There is also a surcharge from ports, airport, rail station and bus station.
