Welcome to the city of Athens |

|
The
city of Athens Greece, the most oriental capital
of Europe, was named in antiquity after the
goddess of wisdom Athena. Athens is the official
capital of Greece since 1834. It is an interesting
and beautiful city with much to offer to the
visitors. The city has thousands of years
of history and was the cradle of one of the
greatest civilization ever. It is the place
where the democratical system where thought
and applied and also where mathematics, physics,
architecture, arts and much more were born.
In present days, Athens Greece looks like
all the oriental megalopolis but despite its
disorganised appearances, has much to offer.
Athens offers a great wealth of museums and
archaeological sites and, every year, great
festivals are organised. The city offers nice
walks in neighbours reminding the Greek islands,
many pedestrian streets, pine-covered hills
and parks, cafés, restaurants, bars,
galleries
Great efforts to reorganise
the city are been made in order to welcome
the Olympic Games of 2004.
Athens is located in the centre of the Greek
territory, in the Attica basin. It is a coastal
city surrounded by mountains. The highest
mountain is Mount Parnass which is culminating
at a height of 1.413 metres. The city of Athens
has a population of 3.7 million inhabitants
on an area which covers 29 square km.
Athens is also the commercial trade centre
of Greece and Piraeus, Athens' main port,
is one of the most important in The Mediterranean.
